The Best Games of 2009

Today marks the last day of 2009 and what better way to wrap up the year than to post the best in nerdiness for the entire year. This list is composed of games that have not only sold well, but truly entertained gamers and left them wanting more. In no particular order, let the list commence!

1. Mario Kart (Wii): This game brings back all of our childhood memories. Many years ago we blew air into our worn out Mario Kart cartridges for the N64 and fired up another couple of laps of this amazing game. Mario Kart, revamped for the Wii, is addicting and challenging with the new feature of online play opening up a world of possibilities. Many gamers look at their Wii as an expensive paper weight, but with the release of Mario Kart and the #2 selection, it has been dusted off for more play.

2. The New Super Mario Brothers (Wii): Again, Nintendo did it perfectly with the multi player aspect. Back in the day as kids we never would have imagined up to four people playing on the same screen. This was a much needed touch for the Wii and the game is so fun and exciting that it is sure to be the highlight of 2009’s game list.

3. Left 4 Dead 2 (XBox 360): Everyone loved L4D right? You must. Zombies and online multi player at the same time in one sentence omgroflcopter! How can you not enjoy loading up your shotty with some friends and heading out to knock off some heads? Definitely a game that can be picked up at any gamer-level to enjoy some zombie apocalypse mayhem.

(To be continued..)

Square Enix.. another SURPRiSE!

Behold the power of countdown clocks!! I’m still super excited about Dissidia, but here Square Enix goes again, making us fangirls and boys drool with anticipation ’cause we wanna know what’s cooking at Square Enix. Who will be the first to take a guess? I stared at the pic for a minute. Does anyone else see a palm tree on the left hand side?

WoW Expansions, Once A Year?

{I thought it was funny.}

Jeffrey Kaplan stated to Kotaku recently in order to clarify comments made by COO Paul Sam:

That is our goal, and sometimes it gets taken in a weird direction,” he said. “Like you’re failing [if] you’re not releasing an expansion each year. It’s probably going to be a long time before we get to the point where we are releasing an expansion each year.

Kaplan told us that the developers who work on content and patches are the same team members who work on expansions. Those developers, he said, are “core to the quality of both the patches and expansions, and we aren’t going to sacrifice the quality of one or the other just to get an expansion out.”

Okay, so many people are in love with WoW and may find that one expansion a year is devestatingly high and dry, but can you honestly complete an expansion within a year? Well some people yeah, but a lot of us (unfortunately) must dedicate less time doing the things with love aka playing WoW. It will even itself out both for newcomers to the game and hardcore fans. Back to back expansions just isn’t a smart move for any game, in order bring in new prospects and keep the ones they have, Blizzard has to think about the overall good.

Did You Say FREE GAMES?!

Yes, yes, I said it. Free games. is giving us free games. Okay, so you’re not going to be able to play GTA IV or anything like that, but there are some games that will entertain you while you wait for Sony to announce their Exclusives and Microsoft to bring us the new dashboard. has divided the games into catagories, so pick a catagory and off you go.

365 Days of Free Games

There’s even a Guitar Hero wannabe!

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Gets A Release Date has a release date listed for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. So what is the day you’re waiting for? September 23rd, 2008. GameTrailer’s Best of Online Games has delivered their take on E3 and nominated certain games in several different categories. I would like to take a look at a few of these categories with you. The first one being Best of Online games. The nominees are.. *drum roll*…..

– Gear Of War 2 {Microsoft, XBox 360}

– Left 4 Dead {Valve, Multiplatform}

– Little Big Planet {SCEA, PlayStation 3}

– Resistance 2 {SCEA, PlayStation 3}

– Spore {Electronic Arts, PC}

And the winner was…

Resistance 2 {SCEA, PlayStation 3}

Do you agree? Eeeeh, I guess I kind of do. I mean, Resistance 2 is a hardcore game and everyone loves it. But for Online Games I kinda have to go with Little Big Planet. I mean c’mon. How many games can you create your own levels and even charge other people to play them?

What do you think?

Gears Of War 2 “Backwards Compatible” Linked Achievements

Cliff Bleszinski made two announcements today at Comic-Con for Gears Of War 2.

1. Steve Jablonsky, composer on films like Transformers and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, was working on the soundtrack for Gears of War 2.

2. Gears of War 2 would feature “linked Achievements.” In short, goals reached in the original Gears of War will carry over to the sequel, giving the player bonuses. Cliff listed three examples of how linked Achievements will work.

– Complete Act One in Gears Of War, unlock a playable Anthony Carmine in Gears of War 2
– Find 10 COG tags in Gears Of War, unlock Minh Young Kim in Gears of War 2
– Kill Raam in Gears Of War, unlock a playable Raam in Gears of War 2

So what do I think? Freakin’ sweeeeeeeeeet! Bonus points to GoW2!

It has not been official announced yet if GTA IV will come to us on the PC or not, but the above ESRB screen shot was shown today on the ESRB website. *Notice the Platform has Windows PC* Of course, if you go now, this has been removed.

No, it’s not official, but damn, this is pretty close to giving me a good feeling that we will have GTA IV on PC soon! As Kotaku’s view goes, I agree. I think that this was a premature update on the ESRB site. Well, I’ll let you know once it has been announced as official! (But isn’t this as good?!)
